Classic multimedia - presentations and animation

The need for presentations on the Internet is quite obvious. Virtual lectures, corporate presentations, training and similar on-line events have sometimes greater impact when presented with special plug-in then with usual hypertext.

One of the most powerful tools around is Macromedia's Shockwave for Director, which enables Web browsers to embed presentations originally created with Director itself. Another Macromedia's product known as Afterburner is used to prepare the .DIR files to be more suitable for the Internet use, by means of further compression.

Another product, Enliven suite comes in three parts:

GEO Interactive Media Group's Emblaze is a real-time animation player, which plays GEO's animation format files, which are approximately 3 to 4 Mb long for 30 minutes of animation's play time. The animation rate is 12 to 24 frames per second in 256 colors, which in the case of Emblaze can be transported over 14.4 kbps connection.
The media is created with commercial Emblaze Creator software, which can integrate animation with sound. The result is animated cartoon, which can be used for many purposes such as weather forecast.

ASAP WebShow is Software Publishing Corporation's plug-in that can be used for viewing and downloading presentations created with commercial product ASAP WordPower. The organization of the documents is similar to those created by Microsoft's PowerPoint. The browser with the enabled plug-in can view the media file one slide at the time or continuously running show, in small live area window or zoomed to full screen.
The ASAP WebShow Presentation Kit contains the Image Compressor and some components of RealAudio system, which when used with the WebShow can give an audio enhancement to the presentation.

There are other presentation tools such as Astound Web Player, mBED or Asymetrix's ToolBook Neuron. mBED in recent times invests a lot in creation of effective multimedia creation environment for the Internet, and we'll probably hear more and more about it in the future.
